on paper checks all the boxes. His prior experience gives him familiarity with the entirety of the college athletics landscape. He knows the Big Ten, he knows Notre Dame, he has public and private, big and small school perspective. As a member of the Big Ten TV committee he knows network and TV and has relations with both ESPN and Fox. Most importantly, he is a fresh set of eyes not a plant of the Carolina Mafia. He has been on the job less than a year, inherited some preexisting challenges and before he even gets comfortable in the seat the UT/OU/SEC bombshell drops. I do not know whether he will be successful but, I believe the ACC is probably as well served with him in the chair as anybody not named Jim Delaney and you can bet Phillips knows how to get in touch with Delaney should he need a sounding board.
