Ultimately going to be held responsible because he’s the one with a head coach’s salary:

1. Offensive play calling is suspect at best, incompetent at worst. He has to see this. It isn’t a 2021 thing either. This has been an issue he has had years to address and has been unable or unwilling to.

2. Recruiting has been lackluster at best, in the gutter at worst. Why does it seem we are always dependent on the portal or other transfers for positions like QB when he was supposed to be a QB development guru? Why Does our D seem to lack the talent of past years? He’s not the only one out on the recruiting trail, but it does all fall back on him.

3. Players jumping ship and then succeeding in other systems is a problem. Hendon Hooker is a prime example. I know the portal is what it is, but why couldn’t VT maximize Hooker’s potential?

4. Lack of “Grit.” I know the players probably care about winning, but there are times where they don’t seem to be leaving it all out there. That comes down to preparation, which falls back on the coaches.

All of this falls back on the coaches, who all report to the head coach. Like it or not, Fuente knows what being a head coach means. Millions of dollars traded for the buck stopping with you. Fu needs to go, and he shouldn’t be offended when he is shown the door.
