You are right; but I think the ACC CFP stance hasn't fully sunk in
When the new governance is done for the highest Division in the NCAA, the first order of business will be to set the qualifications a school has to have to be a member. How many sports, how much money, how to compensate players, maybe stadium size. I'm sure they will aim to the middle so that most of the membership is unaffected...you need a majority vote...but I'd guess there may be a few casualties because of the money or maybe a loss of focus on academics; perhaps some might not want to add/cut sports; or even some that don't want any restrictions on player compensation. The P5/G5 going in may not look exactly the same as it does coming out. The elite could go their own way or some of the fringe football schools could drop out. I think the ACC could have a little of both and since meeting the D1 requirements is a tenet for ACC membership...
Back to your point; it's now or never for the SEC to take max advantage of the UT/OU move. They need more playoff teams...even 2 is not enough to feed the collection of super egos they have assembled. None of them will tolerate Memphis getting an auto berth ahead of them. So SEC/ESPN will keep rolling out Finebaum, Staples, Sankey, all of their SC folks until the bitter end. It costs them nothing and their windfall hangs in the balance.
