I see it very differently...

I've lived on the west coast...

1. In general, West Coasters don't care that much for college sports. It is better than the North East where pro sports take the market share, but it's way behind the deep south, mid atlantic and midwest.

2. The time zone is a killer. All games have to be played at 12:00PM PST or 3:30PM PST to capture the audiences not in PST. You won't see a 7PM kickoff on the west coast that is a big game as that's already 10PM on the east coast. That in itself kills the atmosphere of big time football. Most of my greatest memories of VT games which converted me into a passionate fan were late afternoon or night games... not the noon or 3:30 games.

3. There's something about the West Coast which allows college sports to take a back seat. Not sure if it's the Pro Sports, the beaches, the laid back lifestyle, the academics, or all the above.

The only advantage the PAC has is that they aren't going to be raided by another conference as they are the only conference in their exclusive territories.
