Relatively, NCAA tourney shares/units were a larger source of revenue then

In other words, football television revenue was not nearly as great then as it is today. The ACC's advantage in 2002-03 would have been that it was relatively small (9 members) and had a relatively large share of NCAA men's basketball tournament units to collect. The Big Ten's revenue would have been competitive because it combined a pretty good bit of basketball revenue with larger football stadium sizes.

When you look at differences between schools, the primary difference would arise from income for bowl revenue. So even though conference revenue for the ACC was driving by NCAA tournament dollars, FSU got the most revenue and UNC the least because the typical process then was to share basketball money but "eat what you kill" with respect to extra revenue from football bowl games.

At least, those are my very strong hunches regarding how to interpret this data.
