HO rates vary tremendously depending on where you are located. Florida is

a very tough state to write homeowners insurance in due to storm activity, regulatory issues, and lawsuits. I am an independent agent in VA, representing 8 companies, 2 of which used to write business in FL, but they have pulled out in the past 10-20 years for the above reasons. You should meet with your agent and have them quote higher deductibles to see if increasing the deductible is worth the savings. Also, coverage increases each year to keep up with building costs, and that sometimes gets out of line. As to Coach McGuirk's comment below, we have had three homes burn flat to the ground this year alone. Those "chumps" are very happy they had insurance to cover those losses.
