Timeshares are often free or less. A colleague of mine bought timeshare in


the mountains of Western North Carolina. Used it for a couple of ski seasons and then maintenance fees nearly doubled so he decided to sell. Literally could not give it away. He tried to just walk away, but the resorts lawyers were all over him. It cost him over $3000 plus back maintenance fees to "give" it back to the real estate agency that managed the resort properties.
