Texas A&M is flagship of its own separate system
So there wasn't any obvious organizational link to the University of Texas. Just throwing that out as a fun fact. I don't know how much state politics, system associations, or academic links really have to do with the overall realignment process any more.
I am really curious about the ties between Chapel Hill and everyone else. UNC and Duke have certainly seemed to be in lockstep with one another on most major issues (which suggests some degree of coordination and collaboration involving those two universities). What's the story there beyond simple geographic proximity?
