This "arrogance" argument.... I'm not really getting it
On the academic side, enhanced perception of Tech relative to other "national universities" can't possibly be a bad thing -- particularly for alumni who are in (or entering) the overall job market. And given the way public fund accounting works in Virginia, that's a separate issue from athletics anyway.
Full disclosure... I'm not a huge Tim Sands fan, but I also don't really get the sense that there is some conspiracy against the SEC being promoted by his administration. There seems to be a clear aim to follow a Big Ten model for strategic planning on the academic side, but I'm not sure there is similar clarity with regard to this administration's view of Tech's future in athletics other than an abundance of caution. I believe that there is a contingency in place to deal with the effect of an ACC implosion, but also that we will not be any kind of catalyst (real or perceived) in such a chain reaction.
Just a hunch, mind you.
