Maybe so, but ironically I played 10 years at the center position

(up until HS) in offenses that ran your typically black-n-blue schemes. Now I was fortunate that all my coaches allowed me to start pre-snap blocking schemes at a young age.

One reason I prefer more spread base schemes is I have no problem with the offense dinking, dunking, and chucking the ball all over the field. Yes, it might make my defense a little more vulnerable. However, if the opposing team wants to get into a shootout with my offense, then I have the confidence in my players (even the 3rd and 4th string) that they will be able to deliver in crunch time if a late score is the difference between a W and L. Also, I can guarantee that during practice I will try my best to install that same level of confidence in the players.

The one thing I learned playing in a black-n-blue scheme is that the offense tends to play better when everyone knows where the ball is going and the opposing defense can do nothing to stop it. That same mindset can still work with spread schemes too.
