I was definitely not the most athletic person at the positon

Heck I didn't even fit the center mold in HS (5'10", 170lbs or so). However, I guess the coaches saw that I had brains which is an asset for a position that is considered to be the "QB of the OL."

Personally, I think confidence is an important quality to look for in a coach. If the coach is confident or appears to be confident, even when the coach is unsure on the inside, then it is easier to sell to the players. If the players are confident in a coach and buy into what the coach is selling them, then they will play harder for that coach. Throughout my playing career, I had a couple coaches that I would have ran through a brick wall for without hesitation. Likewise, I had some coaches that I would completely tune them out the minute they opened their mouth because they kept trying to sell "oceanside property in North Dakota." The minute a coach starts to show doubt, even subconsciously, then that is the second players start to lose confidence in a coach's ability.
