I have nothing personal against Wake Forest...


It's a very good academic institution with a beautiful campus. I understand that Wake was a founding member but they got in because of their North Carolina connection. 20 years ago, I wouldn't have had a problem with Wake Forest in my conference but Wake Forest brings the ACC absolutely nothing in the 21st century world of college athletics. The ACC has 4 members in one state. That has hurt with our TV contracts. Wake has a small football stadium with the ACC's smallest fan base. UNC, Duke, and NC State would carry Winston-Salem area if Wake were in another conference. The ACC needs more larger state universities. Wake Forest is very similar to the University of Richmond than it is to most of their ACC brethren.

The reason the Big 10 and SEC are so successful is because they are made up of mostly large state universities with large fan bases and hundreds of thousands of living alumni. That's why the Big 10 and SEC have successful money making TV networks.

Like I said, I have no animosity towards Wake Forest University, I just don't think they fit in the Power 5 (may Power 4 soon) conference of 2016. With all that said, Wake will never be kicked out of the ACC. The only way they leave the ACC is if the conference falls apart or if they decide to leave on their own. I doubt either of those things will happen any time soon. Wake Forest is the most fortunate Power 5 school. They grandfathered themselves into a P-5 conference. Rice, Tulane, Cincinnati, UConn, and most of the MAC schools wish they could have been as fortunate when they made their decisions to join the conference they're in today.
