It's a Catch-22.

Coastal membership and the cross-division game with BC has not been good for VT football interest and attendance, to say the least. Annual games with Duke and BC, and the lack of regular contests vs. FSU, Clemson, NC State and Louisville put a damper on VT's home schedules, thus hurting ticket sales.

Even the yearly game against UVA isn't helping. That "rivalry" has taken a gut punch in the last decade, with Tech's dominance taking all the wind out of it.

But the Coastal is by far the easier path to the ACCCG, and thus the playoff. If VT has a year where they enter the preseason ranked in the top 10-15, win all their OOC games, and mow down the Coastal .... well, there you go. It's basically one really tough game left against probably Clemson or FSU for a potential playoff spot. Much harder to do if they have to play Clemson and FSU every single year.

So I'm conflicted as to whether or not VT being in the Atlantic would be a good thing. It would definitely ramp up interest and thus ticket sales, but what are VT's chances for high-level success in the scenario?
