If you get a lump sum bonus the withholding is based on making that every


paycheck so it withholds at a higher percentage but it is just withholding. You have not lost anything, the actual tax you owe will be computed when you file your annual tax return and you most likely get a large refund. One way to combat that if you are able is to do a new w-9 and do max number of dependents so the withholding is as low as possible then do another one after the bonus is run thru payroll
