You can always have them withhold an extra dollar amount without changing


exemptions claimed.

For instance, if you owed $500 when you file, you can change your W-4 to take out an additional $10/week (or $20 every two weeks). This would be in addition to whatever the result is for the exemptions you claim. This is the way it works for W-4s, and I'm assuming it's the same for W-9s.

Turbotax may have taken you to extra screens or worksheets to clarify the source of that supplemental income, without actually filing extra forms to the IRS.
