Every P5 program brings in tens of
millions of dollars via tv contracts, etc. Every P5 program spends millions on facilities and on coaching salaries.
Fair/unfair isn’t an objective thing. However, the more college football has become a big business (which it undeniably is in the past 30 years), the more players realize they are being exploited as cheap labor. Given that the players are not easily replaceable (see the fervor of recruiting as evidence that their services are in high demand), many feel as though they should be better compensated for their services. So they are putting pressure on the system. That’s the reality.
