Just because some idiot is willing to pay $8M doesn't mean its "deserved"
I understand your point. If my kid was offered $8 Million because he was a good high school football player and some booster wants to bribe him to go to his school, it would be hard to turn down. That said, the arms race this creates will be destructive for the sport of college football in many ways. It will especially hurt schools like VT that will not be able to compete in such an arms race. In the end you end up with one or two conferences with semi-pro players and only the top 3 or 4 schools in each of these conferences will win at expense of everyone else including the rest of the teams in those semi-pro conferences.
