Actual belief--Here is ND's"self standard" re playoffs

ND thinks it is ND's own fault if it does not go undefeated and leaves the decision up to debate.

It is ok with that standard. Win them all and you are in. Don't win them all and its your own fault if you are out.

For some reason, other folks are upset that ND is setting up this playoff standard for itself and remaining outside of a football conference (not taking the easier way into the playoffs).
