the BEFC was always vulnerable b/c of the mix & match membership, but it was still a BCS league. Miami's biggest issue was the unequal revenue sharing. It's wasn't as simple as you make it though, as if Miami was hopeless & the ACC somehow saved them. Miami would have been fine either way- the rest of the BEFC members' futures at that point depended on Miami. Miami leaving would have & eventually did sink the ship, and that's why everyone was scrambling.
