Re: I suppose the difference in opinion is the difference
It's not about a historical model or a wishful model. Highly unlikely Big 12 can expand and MAINTAIN current conference payouts which will essentially drive Big 12 members to other conferences. At that point with a Power 4 the motives change depending upon what the final conference membership number is and the goal is to get the best makeup of that final number and that makeup will come from available Big 12 programs and a certain number of schools from smaller FBS conferences. It is not about SEC or Big 10 giving back what they already have but, it is about the remaining power 4 making moves to add to their conference membership list to reach the new number. WVU needs to be more concerned about making their programs as strong as possible more so than the TV footprint because in the next expansion decision programs will provide more value to a conference from their contribution to competitive inventory than their footprint. IMO WVU is in a pretty solid position if they maintain the competitiveness of their programs because their geographic proximity makes them a potential fit for any of the SEC, Big 10 or ACC and they would be a potentially more attractive member(outside of Texas, Oklahoma and maybe OSU) than any of the remaining Big 12 leftovers or smaller FBS schools looking to move to one of the Power 4.
