Is that really the metric to use anymore?
Yes, we're getting a cable network, but with cord-cutting, I think the future may be in how passionate the fanbase is with respect to their team. That's why the SEC is raking in the big bucks, because their fanbase will spend to see their team. WVU has a very passionate fanbase, and in a potential future with a digital network powered not by large numbers of disinterested cable subscribers, but by fanbases interested in ponying up to watch their team, WVU might not be a bad choice.
At least compared to what's available.
