lots of ND fans also think the status quo includes participating in football national championships fairly often. The trend lately has been conference champs -
that may or may not continue. IMHO it continues, particularly if ND doesn't turn things around in the real near future. The longer that takes, the better they'll have to be to crack it. 10-2 now may do it, depending on other records. If they go several years without being in the picture - it'll take more than 10-2.
Where does ND make more money/prestige? as an indy with less and less chance of natty? or as a conference member with a better chance at natty?
Their stock (in relative terms to what it could be) with NBC will decline in next contract rounds if they haven't been part of the playoff picture.
I'm guessing natties in a conference are worth more (including exposure, prestige etc.) than an independent TV contract that will decline (slowly) without wining one.
